Pool Side Retaining Wall Installation

While working next door on another job in Greenville, KY, we were asked for a quote to stop water and mud runoff into a backyard pool. The homeowner wanted a practical solution that would keep the pool area clean and prevent future runoff problems. We began by excavating the area where the retaining wall would go. Excavation established the proper footprint and grade so the wall could do its job. With the space prepared, we installed drainage tile behind the wall as we built it. The drainage tile was placed to give water a clear path away from the pool and the base of the wall, which helps prevent water buildup behind the structure.

As we assembled the wall, we core filled the hollow areas with gravel. Filling the wall cores with gravel creates internal drainage and provides stable, consistent support for the wall units. That gravel core work was done in stages so the wall stayed solid and level as it grew to the planned height.

After the wall was complete and the drainage systems were in place, we backfilled the area with topsoil. Backfilling with topsoil restored the landscape and allowed us to finish the grade between the pool and the new wall. We carefully graded the space so water now runs away from the pool, rather than toward it. Proper grading, combined with the drainage tile and the gravel-filled wall cores, addressed both the standing water and the muddy runoff the customer was experiencing.

The homeowner was very pleased with the results. The wall stopped the mud and water from flowing into the pool area and left a clean, stable edge around the yard. Because the work was done while we were already on site for a nearby job, the project was completed efficiently and with minimal disruption to the property.
